Everybody says to drink eight glasses of water a day. Yes, you should drink lots of water; it is a good thing for your body to hydrate and remove waste out of your body. But thinking of drinking eight glasses of water every day stresses me out, especially since I am taking blood pressure medication, and more water means more restroom visits.
What else can I do to hydrate myself and my skin? Yes, you still need to drink a little more water and apply moisturizer. Not just any moisturizer; you should find the one your skin likes and needs. With trial and error, you will be able to find the just right one your skin likes. Is that enough? I ask myself, as I age, I need more. I switched my foam cleanser to a cream cleanser; the foam cleanser removed too much oil from my skin, making it too dry after washing, but the cream cleanser was better at removing my eyeliner and makeup without drying my skin. But I do use the foam cleanser from time to time, so I keep it around. Also I needed to upgrade my moisturizer lotion to a cream; I tried lots of different kinds and have more than one type of cream on my vanity. Do you feel dryness after putting on makeup? In that case, you should use a better moisturizing lotion or cream or apply one more layer of Hyaluronic acid serum for an extra moisture layer. Sometimes, we have to put an extra layer of cream, like petroleum jelly, to stop losing moisture from our skin into the air. There are so many different types of creams, and you need to know which kind goes on first or later. We don’t want to put on the moisture blocker before the moisturizing cream.
Have a humidifier around in your office or bedroom and drink a glass of water. As you get older, your skincare routine should change, transitioning from addressing acne and oily skin to dealing with dry skin. How is your skin when towel-dried after a shower? If you feel dryness, you need to start using body lotion or body oil after a shower. When we were young, our skin produced enough oil, sometimes even too much, but once we hit 25 years old, everything changes, and we start to age. It is a dreadful thought, but we cannot stop time, and we must face the fact that we are not getting younger.
What ages our skin the most? The number one factor is sun damage, so please put on sunscreen every 3 to 4 hours. Ladies, do you know how long chemical sunscreen lasts? Yes, only 3 to 4 hours, one application in the morning is not enough. Makeup, especially foundation, has physical sun blockers as ingredients, but you should check your makeup with a carry-on compact for touch-ups time to time. Another question: do you know the difference between SPF 30 and SPF 50? SPF 30 covers 97% of ultraviolet light, while SPF 50 covers 98%, so they are not that different from each other. You don’t have to buy more expensive SPF 50 anymore. Now, I see there are SPF 90 to 100 out there, which covers 99%. As the number gets higher, it does feel heavier on your skin because of more oil content, but you still need to put it on again every 3 to 4 hours, so it might be more comfortable to wear a lighter SPF. After water sports or sweating during exercise, you need to reapply your sunscreen sooner. Do you know that you can get sunburned through thin or light fabric clothes? Companies are making UPF-rated swimsuits and clothes, but thicker and tightly woven fabric will be good too. Please shield your skin from the sun every day.
I regret not taking enough care of my under-eye area when I could and should have. By the time I noticed the bags under my eyes, it was too late to start treatment. I want to advise you to start early. If your mother has under-eye bags, it’s crucial to begin caring for your eye area. While no one can stop aging, you can delay its effects by pampering the delicate and thin skin under your eyes before it starts to sag. People often say that after sagging occurs, your only options are going under the knife or living with it. The choice will be yours.
Recently, I’ve noticed some good Electrical Muscle Stimulator (EMS) tools available, but be cautious about where you use them. Avoid using any electrical stimulator over your neck’s thyroid gland, as it is located between your neck bone and skin at the bottom of your neck. There isn’t much muscle to protect the gland from the electrical stimulator, which is not good for the thyroid gland. I remember when the sonic toothbrush was introduced, everyone was excited about the new invention. However, over time, they noticed a flaw – it not only shook off tartar from teeth but also affected the root. Personally, I would not use it unless I want to use dentures sooner. Good EMS tools work; they slow down sagging facial skin, so read and learn before using them. Use them wisely to keep your facial muscle and skin up where they belong. For necklines, lower your pillow, use hand massage, and apply extra extra hydrating cream. Your hands and neck will reveal your true age through wrinkles. Please apply more cream to your neck; the face does not stop at the chin line.
Did you know that the skin is the body’s largest organ? Please hydrate your skin and protect it before dark spots, wrinkles, sagging eyes, crow’s feet, marionette lines, necklines, and so on appear. Additionally, exercise to keep your body young and healthy.
